We use top of the range LIDAR scanners to create digital 3-D representations of your scenes or subjects. These machines capture dense, accurate models that we can then use for previsualization and projection. Photogrammetry

Pro: simple data acquisition, low hardware cost, flexible camera placement

Con: lower accuracy, noise resulting in longer cleanup process, no inherent scale or orientation

  • Onsite photography: controlled light conditions, reference lengths obtained
  • Photo preparation: excluding any unsuitable images, masking irrelevant image parts.
  • Alignment of photos by matching features. Resulting in low resolution point cloud

Laser Scan

Pro: high accuracy, in scan world orientation, distance range, light independent, colour + plain cloud

Con: higher hardware cost, larger area covered in same time as photogrammetry

  • Onsite scan, placing tripod across region of interest; controlled light conditions (for colour clouds)
  • Alignment of multiple laser clouds into one dataset
  • Point cloud cleanup (editing irrelevant points in 3d workspace)
  • 3d surface reconstruction, resulting in high resolution polygon mesh
  • Colour to texture extraction for high resolution mesh if scanned with colour)
  • Retopology: reduction of high resolution mesh into low resolution (high accuracy) quadrangulated mesh
  • Texture unwrapping (UV mapping) retopology mesh into efficient image space for artworking
  • Transfer of high resolution mesh colour to retopology mesh UV map
